I thank Sen. Maggie Hassan for her vote for Dr. Marty Makary to lead the FDA. I have long been concerned about the declining health of Americans and especially our children, the prioritization of “how to pay for” disease treatment over investment in upstream disease prevention and the conflicts of interest in and corruption of our medical and scientific agencies.

How is it that the U.S. spends so much more on health care – with such poor and declining outcomes? I am an independent, but happy to see the way MAHA has brought these fundamental and festering issues to the fore and hopeful that principled people like Makary can prevail despite powerful monied interests, which the public would do well to remember are major advertisers and underwriters of corporate media.

I commend Hassan for her willingness to break with party orthodoxy and put our health first. She made New Hampshire proud.
