A hundred years ago, seven Jaffrey women marched in the towns’ 150th anniversary parade to celebrate the incorporation of the Village of Jaffrey in 1773.

This summer, the Jaffrey Historical Society is sponsoring nine Jaffrey women who will have the chance to do the same, marching in Jaffrey’s parade on Aug. 19 to celebrate the 250th anniversary. Interested women will need to be able to walk eight-tenths of a mile from Humiston Field to St. Patrick School.

Dress will be white pants, top and shoes/sneakers. Seven of the women will be wearing a sign with one letter of the name “Jaffrey” on it. The other two women will be wearing signs reading either “1773” or “2023.”

The marchers will be selected in a lottery drawing in early June. Lottery applications are available at the Jaffrey Public Library during library open hours and may also be dropped off there. Winners will be contacted immediately.

All applications must be received no later than June 10 to be included in the lottery drawing. For information, or to receive an application, call 603-532-7050. Completed applications may be sent to Parade, 8 Main St., Unit 8, Jaffrey, NH 03452 by June 10.
