A Jaffrey woman died after being hit by a car Nov. 1.

According to the Jaffrey Police Department, 88-year-old Mary Merrell was crossing Main Street at 8:03 p.m. after leaving St. Patrick’s Church, when she was struck by a 2015 Ford Explorer driving by 60-year-old Frank Finocchiaro of Jaffrey.

Merrell was airlifted to the hospital, where she died.

There are no crosswalks in the area, and according to police, Finocchiaro did not see Merrell. Darkness is being cited as a factor, and the case is still under investigation.
