The Town of Jaffrey accepted two sources of unanticipated revenue on Monday, which can be put toward infrastructure repairs.
The first grant accepted by the Select Board was $34,120.09 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, administered through the New Hampshire Department of Safety. Town Manager Jon Frederick explained the funds are residuals related to damage caused by flooding in Jaffrey in 2021, for reimbursement for equipment, employee time and tools used to repair the damage.
The second grant is a one-time payment of $39,553.46 from the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. The state funding, as approved through House Bill 2, was disseminated to towns across the state. Frederick said the funds could be used for the funding of repair or replacement of the Letourneau Drive Bridge. The bridge was approved for replacement during the 2023 Town Meeting, at a total cost of $1.5 million, $1.35 million of which is anticipated to come from a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant, with the rest from Jaffrey’s bridge capital reserve.
Frederick said the funds could also be put toward funding updates to the town’s Capital Improvement Plan relating to town bridges.
The board held short public hearings on the acceptance of the funds, as is required by law, but received no questions from the public. The board voted unanimously to accept both sources of funding in a resolution later in the meeting.
The board also unanimously agreed to a resolution accepting $2,000 in grant funding from the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant.
