The Mi Jalisco Mexican restaurant in the Peterborough Shopping Plaza was closed Monday, after co-owner Genaro Quezada said federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers conducted a search.

According to Quezada, he was told that officers came to the restaurant around 11 a.m. and identified themselves as being from ICE.

“They were looking for somebody,” he said.

Quezada said the officers were looking for Mi Jalisco’s chef, but he was not there, and the officers looked around and left. Because the restaurant had no chef, Quezada closed the business on Monday, but he planned to reopen Tuesday.

According to Quezada, the chef had been working at Mi Jalisco for three or four years.

“We’re working people,” he said. “Everything is legal.”

Peterborough Police Chief Scott Guinard confirmed Monday that the department was aware ICE and Drug Enforcement Administration officers would be in town, but could not comment on the specifics of the operation.

“We did not take part in it,” he said.
