A 34-year-old Massachusetts resident injured his leg Sunday afternoon while descending Mount Monadnock near the summit.

According to a press release from New Hampshire Fish and Game, Peter Marotta experienced a non-life-threatening injury from “slippery rocks.” A hiking companion transported Marotta to the local hospital for evaluation after climbing to the base with help from rescuers, according to the release.

New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified of Marotta’s injury just before 2:30 p.m. Mount Monadnock staff located and assisted Marotta and his companion out of the weather.

“New Hampshire Fish and Game urges hikers to be prepared and to use caution while hiking. Hikers should be aware that conditions often change and deteriorate quickly,” the release stated.
