Amidst icy conditions on Sunday morning, the Greenville Fire Department responded to a chimney fire on Darling Hill Road.

Shortly after 7 a.m., crews were dispatched for a report of a possible fire, and the first crews to arrive reported an active fire. According to a post on the Greenville Fire Department’s Facebook, there was a severe blockage in the chimney that was actively burning.

Greenville Fire requested additional assistance, and Mason Fire Department responded.

The blockage in the chimney was broken up and removed from the chimney, but crews discovered fire remained burning between the chimney liner and the outer block wall of the chimney. Crews attempted to extinguish the fire, but ultimately had to dismantle the chimney in order to put it out completely.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the Mason Fire and EMS Department assisted with the call.
