Three Girl Scout volunteers were recognized as Volunteers of Excellence by Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains on June 8 at Crotched Mountain School.
Sara Pope of Peterborough, Coreen Webb of Greenfield and Jeannette Regis of Bennington have given years of service to the council serving New Hampshire and Vermont, leading troops, coordinating cookie and fall product sales and providing experiences to the Girl Scouts in their care.
Pope has led Troop 12300 in Peterborough for eight years.
“As the troop has grown older, Sara has always strived to keep the girls at the front of the planning process, helping them stay invested in their troop activities and desiring to continue on into high school when so many other troops tend to disband at this age,” Community Accounting Coordinator and Community Product Sales Coordinator Sonja Fritz stated.
Pope’s Girl Scouts have organized a trip to Washington, D.C., participated in yearly camping trips, volunteered monthly for a local church’s community supper and volunteered with Wreaths Across America.
Troop Leader Kaitlynne Foote stated, “Through her caring nature, she shows fellow Girl Scouts how to live by the Girl Scout law. She always treats others with consideration, care and respect. She will always present the information about a situation in an honest, friendly and helpful way to all involved.”
Regis has volunteered in Bennington for 12 years. She was instrumental in reviving Girl Scouts there, taking a Daisy troop through to Ambassador level — from kindergarten through 12th grade. Bennington now has three troops with Girl Scouts from five towns.
Troop Leader Bethany Craig stated, “Jeannette has been a supporter and planner for World Thinking Day every year and has helped bring camporee and outdoor experiences to fruition for many girls in our service unit. She participates in local events and represents Girl Scouts in parades and patriotic events.”

Volunteer Support Coordinator Colleen Allen stated, “Jeannette brings energy and silliness like no other leader in our service unit. She can connect with the girls through games, stories and songs, creating relationships to make Girl Scouts have a safe atmosphere. Whether it is camping in the rain, traveling by train to New York City or throwing tea into Boston Harbor, her troop is having a fun time making memories.”
Webb has led Troop 51925 in Greenfield for nine years, with 16 girls from kindergarten through 12th grade. Her daughter, a Cadette last year, even helped a younger Daisy earn all her petals — like badges.
Co-leader Andra Hall stated, “Coreen has always gone beyond to provide amazing opportunities for the girls. Each year, she and her family spend hours putting together graham cracker gingerbread houses so that all the girls in the troop, as well as their siblings, have a house to decorate. This is one of our most loved and anticipated activities of the year.”
Volunteer Support Coordinator Colleen Allen stated, “Coreen is always present at meetings and service unit events. She assists with the cookie sales and helps make the troop run smoothly and effectively.”
