Two passing motorists saved a driver from a burning car after an accident Saturday morning on Keene Road in Antrim, according to Antrim Police.
Police stated that the department responded to a single-vehicle crash at approximately 4:15 a.m. The driver, a 23-year-old from Antrim, was driving a 2014 Nissan Rogue westbound when it left the roadway, reentered and then left the roadway again. Upon exiting the roadway, police stated the vehicle rolled multiple times before striking a large rock and a tree, coming to rest on its passenger side.
Shortly after coming to a stop, the vehicle caught fire, according to police, but two passing motorists pulled the driver of the Rogue out moments before it became fully engulfed in flames. According to Antrim Fire & Ambulance, there were multiple explosions from the vehicle with ammunition and propane cylinders inside. The fuel line to the vehicle also ruptured. A tanker was requested from Hillsboro Fire for a backup water supply.
The driver was transported to Concord Hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.
Police state that a preliminary investigation suggests that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash and an investigation is ongoing. The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while the fire was extinguished and the vehicle was recovered.
Antrim Police was assisted on scene by the Antrim Fire & Ambulance, Hillsboro Police Department, Henniker Police Department, Hillsboro Fire Department and Mikes Towing & Recovery.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the vehicle operating prior to the crash or has information related to the incident to contact the department at 603-588-6613.
