“The country remains shocked today after an apparent organized terrorist attack on the United States resulted in two hijacked commercial passenger jets crashing into the World Trade Center in New York City and a third demolishing part of the Pentagon building in Washington Tuesday morning.”

That was how the coverage of the Sept, 11, 2001, terrorist attacks kicked off in the Sept. 13 issue of the Peterborough Transcript. Other articles described reactions that included “the spectrum of human emotions,” schools struggling with how to handle the news and churches opening their doors.

Another article provided information on what “people wanting desperately to find a way to help” could do, including blood drives at Millipore and Hancock Fire Department.
