A new player in the local media landscape appeared Nov. 21, 1956, as the Monadnock Ledger presented its first issue.

An editor’s note pointed out that it was a good week to launch a newspaper in Jaffrey because of all the news, including the founding of D.D. Bean’s glass fiber division, featuring “a giant machine in the lower floor of Bean’s uptown warehouse.”

Meanwhile, the Annett Box Company, the oldest business in town, was set to reopen after having been purchased by Schuyler Hollingsworth of Dublin. “He got Carl Wilen, who managed it once before, to come back. Carl will run the business as general manager. They plan to keep on sawing and selling lumber.”
