After supporters of a proposed FM radio station on Mount Monadnock had been heard a a previous meeting, it was time for opponents to have their say during a meeting of the board of control of the Monadnock Region Association.

The Jan. 18, 1945, Peterborough Transcript reports attorney Ernest L. Bell Jr. of Keene, representing the Association to Protect Mount Monadnock, laid out the objections, including “the feeling that the mountain should not be used for commercial purposes, that the project would destroy the tradition and spirit of Monadnock, and permanently injure a great sectional asset. For more than 50 years, he added, the theory has been to keep the mountain free of commercial exploitation and preserve it in its wild state.”
