It was a daring stunt.
Bronson Potter of Mason flew a small plane under the Greenville railroad trestle on July 22, 1979, and then offered a prize for the best pictures of the event. However, while the Aug. 16, 1979, issue of the Monadnock Transcript published the photos, the photographers’ names were not made public to protect them from the Federal Aviation Administration, which suspended Potter’s license.
According to a 2019 Monadnock Ledger-Transcript article previewing a 40th-anniversary presentation of movie footage of the event. organized by the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire, Potter was described as ‘an early electronics pioneer and a longtime Mason resident. At his death, he bequeathed more than 500 acres of land to the Mason Conservation Commission, the largest such gift in the town’s history. He also wrote several children’s books that can be found at the town library, including ‘Shadow, the Cigar-smoking Cat.’”
