Antrim’s regulations and procedures for short-term rentals will be revised once the Planning Board completes the process of reviewing ordinances and applications from comparable New Hampshire towns and finalizing a policy that is suitable for Antrim.
The town has had recent issues with a few short-term rentals in town listed on vacation housing sites such as Airbnb and Vrbo.
“The main thing is that people do not use the Antrim Police Force as their property manager,” said Planning Board member John Anderson.
After reports from the Antrim PD about excessive numbers of calls to a few short-term rental properties in 2024, the Planning Board began to look at drafting ordinance which would require short-term rentals in Antrim to have either an on-site host or a property manager. The board reviewed short-term applications used by Freedom, Brookline and Gorham.
Planning Board member Ken Rubin suggested Antrim’s application contain language specifying that the any short term rentals “do not place an undue burden on town resources for non-emergencies.”
Planning Board consultant Carol Ogilvie reported that Xander Kempf, owner of the Antrim Mills building on Main Street, recently reached out to the board about the potential for converting the Antrim Mills complex to an assisted living facility. The conversion would include demolishing the wooden wing on the back of the building.
“They will be coming back to the Planning Board with a new site plan,” Ogilvie said.
