The New Hampshire Wild, an Empire League baseball team playing home games at Franklin Pierce, kicked off the season with a homestand against the Watertown Bucks.
In game one on Friday, the Wild got a first-inning boost from third baseman Joshua Wong’s grand slam, but Watertown came from behind to take an 11-9 lead in the 8th and then closed it out.
In game two on Saturday, the Wild lost to the Bucks in a tough game. The Wild were once again winning going into the later innings of the game when the bullpen gave up several runs to the Bucks’ hot offense.
The Wild ended the game with three errors totaling eight in just two games. Manager Jerry Gonzalez wasn’t happy with his teams first two games but he is not letting two games prevent him from losing confidence in his guys.
“These are my guys, I picked them for a reason and i believe in them,” Gonzalez said. “It’s just two games and there is a full season still ahead of us. We are ok and will be ok. We got [Jeremy Gonzalez] on the bump tomorrow and that’s what we are looking forward to. First two games are in the past.”
Sunday’s game was a rainout. The Wild were expected to take on the Bucks on Monday night and then finish their homestand on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., with President Andrew Card throwing out the first pitch. Tickets are $5.
