Teen driver extricated from vehicle after Rindge crash

A 17-year-old driver was extricated from his vehicle following a crash on Robbins Road in Rindge Sunday evening.
On Sunday at 8:46 p.m., the Rindge Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash in the vicinity of 350 Robbins Road, where a 2008 Honda Civic had lost control, gone off the road and driven into the tree line, according to a release issued by the Rindge Police Department Monday.
The driver, a Winchendon, Mass., resident, was trapped in the vehicle, but was conscious and alert when the police, fire department and ambulance arrived. Mechanical jaws were used to extricate him from the vehicle, and he was taken by the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance to Heywood Hosipital in Gardner. The extent of his injuries was unknown but were believed to be non-life threatening.
Initial investigation has determined the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash, according to police. There were no indications of impairment.
Robbins Road was closed to through traffic for about an hour while Gauthier’s Auto removed the vehicle from the scene.
The Rindge Police Department was assisted on the scene by the Rindge Fire and Rescue Department, the Winchendon Police Department and the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance. Investigation into the crash is ongoing and charges may be filed at the conclusion of the investigation.
