Spellers strut their stuff at inaugural Greenfield Spelling Bee

Thirteen young spellers competed in the first Greenfield Spelling Bee at the Greenfield Meetinghouse Saturday, in an event sponsored by the Friends of the Greenfield Meetinghouse and the Friends of Stephenson Library.
Contestants of different ages competed in a point system format, with children being given age-appropriate spelling words.
“We are so happy we had such a great turnout, and we’re really grateful to everyone who helped out,” said organizer Billie-Jean Greene. “We’re hoping to do this every year.”
Greene and Riana Hayley of Greenfield organized the event, and Stephenson Library Director Ella Cademartori served as judge and reader. The winning spellers were Rutsi Cohen, 9, of Peterborough; Caeden Place, 8, of Greenfield; Jerry Goodwin, 9, of Sharon; and Bobby Sweet, 7, of Greenfield.
Other participants were Maceo Arnone, 9, of Peterborough; Elijah Bennett, 10, of Greenfield; Naudia Bilodeau, 10, of Greenfield; Kailyn Kokal, 9, of Greenfield; Eleanor Parker, 10, of Greenfield; Mikey Reida, 10, of Temple; Tucker Riendeau, 11, of Greenfield , Maggie Sweet, 9, of Greenfield; and Lola Van Gemert, 10, of Peterborough.
