Friends of Ingalls Library schedule May Day program

The Friends of Ingalls Library are hosting a May Day program Saturday, April 27, at 9:15 a.m. at the library, 203 Main St.

The tradition of May baskets can be traced to the 12th and 13th centuries. In the United States, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, May baskets were used to welcome the return of warm weather. It was common for children to fill homemade baskets with flowers, candy or little trinkets and leave them on the doorknobs of neighbors and others, knock and leave.

During the program, children's author Clare Green will share her book "The Legend of the Rainbow,"  which offers an adaptation from the Lakota Sioux story of the rainbow.  After the reading, participants are invited to make a May cone. Friends of Ingalls Library will provide all materials.

Register by calling the library at 603-899-3303 or visiting the library calendar at ingallslibrary.com/calendar.
