Letter: Palestine is not a country

In the story about Richard Hartshorne April 11 playing and speaking at Mariposa, the item states that he played music in Palestine.

Palestine is not a country. Israel is a country where ethnic Palestinians live. That area of the world is no longer called Palestine. One may, when referring to the people of Palestinian descent, talk about "occupied territories" or "Gaza,” but to call this geographical area Palestine negates the existence of Israel. If you refer to a map, no country called Palestine exists.

Another term that can be used to describe this geographical area is the Holy Land. It would be lovely if there were two states in the Holy Land, but there is not.
